Welcome to the IEEE Atlanta Section Women in Engineering website. The mission of IEEE WIE is to inspire, engage, encourage, and empower IEEE women worldwide. The primary focus of the Atlanta WIE Section is to encourage young women and girls to consider careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields. We believe that to meet the future need for workers in STEM fields, we must increase the number of girls who pursue STEM careers. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, women hold less than 25% of STEM jobs. Moreover, this has been the case throughout the past decade, even as college educated women have increased their share of the overall workforce. By personally interacting with girls before they start college, we give them the opportunity to meet successful, enthusiastic women who work in STEM fields and can share what they love about their careers.

Atlanta WIE was formed in July, 2010 with just six women at the first meeting. In less than two years we had grown to over 30 active members. We visit Ivy Prep Academy, a public charter middle school for girls in Gwinnett County during National Engineers’ Week. In addition, we work with the Girl Scouts at the Pure Genius STEM Expo. We also provide volunteers for career days and other STEM events in the Atlanta area. In the fall, we host a mixer and invite all the Atlanta women technology groups to network and enjoy an interesting topic.

If you are an educator who needs volunteers to support STEM events, please contact one of the officers listed on the Officer Roster.

If you are an engineer or technologist interested in volunteering for STEM events, please contact us or join us at one of our scheduled meetings or events. Everyone is welcome to attend our board meetings, which are held every 4 - 6 weeks. See our calendar for information about our next event.
